Lesson 1

LI: create descriptive writing

Thinking about what know about descriptive writing – if you were to write a descriptive passage, what would you need to include?

Think about fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and describing senses!

Create an introduction for a story using the picture below. Imagine the reader cannot see the picture you can see – what things might you describe?

Lesson 2

LI: create descriptive writing

Thinking about what helps a reader see an image in their head – it is to do with the descriptive language used! Create a descriptive passage describing the picture below – remember to include senses!

Lesson 3

LI: create descriptive writing

Watch the first 25 seconds of the video clip below. Think about if you were there, what would you be able to see, hear, smell and touch? Create a paragraph describing these senses to match the video’s introduction.

Lesson 4

LI: create descriptive writing

Watch the rest of the video clip from the previous lesson. Note down how the shepherd is feeling at different stages of the video – why will his feelings be changing throughout the clip? What is happening? What lesson has the shepherd learned?

Focus on the feelings of the shepherd at the end of the video clip – how is he feeling? Why? Create a paragraph describing his feelings so they would be clear to someone who has not watched the video clip, eg. He trembled when he heard the deafening roar, his knees were knocking and a bead of swear trickled down his back, etc.
