Lesson 1

LI: To use parentheses to add information.

 

Parentheses are used to add additional information about what you are writing about. Around the parentheses you should use:

  • Brackets
  • Dashes
  • or commas

Here is an example of how they are used:

Boris Johnson (the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom) was exhausted after his long day at work.

 

Boris Johnson - the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom - was exhausted after his long day at work.

 

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, was exhausted after his long day at work.

 

The parentheses in this example is in bold.

 

Challenge: Write sentences which include parentheses in them. You could write them about characters in Goth Girl. Good luck!

 

Lesson 2

LI: To a the Early-Life and Childhood section of a biography.

 

In your work pack there is a fact file about Boris Johnson. Use this to help you write a paragraph about the childhood and early life he experienced. You will need to put this into your own words. Here you can add finer details bout his early life.

Include:

  • His parents
  • Siblings
  • Influences
  • Interests

 

Lesson 3

LI: To the Career and Why they are famous sections of an autobiography.

 

Please refer to you Boris Johnson fact file. Highlight the sections you will need to help you create a paragraph about his career and what he is famous for. 

You will want to use bullet points discussing his time as Mayor of London and as Leader of the Conservative Party as well as his time as Prime Minister. Discuss that he was the United Kingdom's leader during the Coronavirus outbreak.
