Lesson 1

LI: To identify basic features of poetry.

 

Read the poem 'Autumn Fires'. 

Did you enjoy reading the poem? What it it about?

 

Answer the question about the poem to deepen your understanding of how poem works.

 

Now try to create your own. Include rhyming and exciting vocabulary!

Lesson 2

LI: To identify and use modal verbs.

 

Modal verbs are used in writing to explain how important something is to do and how likely it is to happen.

 

Here are all of the modal verbs:

might, should, will, must, ought, would, shall, may

 

Complete the sheet in your pack called 'Is It Possible?'.

 

Ensure that your sentences make sense!

 

Now you have completed your sheet. You have a challenge!

 

Task:

Write 4 different sentences about the Goth Girl story using modal verbs.

 

Example:

Ada must always wear her big, clumpy boots when walking around Ghastly-Gorm Hall.

LI: To answer questions about Diwali.

 

Read the information sheet about Diwali. Underline any words you are unsure of and find their meaning either in a dictionary or using the internet.

 

Now answer the question about Diwali using the answer sheet.

Lesson 4

LI: To write sentences which include adverbs of possibility.

 

Here are the adverbs of possibility.

Perhaps, definitely, certainly, possibly.

 

These are great to use when you are giving an opinion about something or someone.

Here is an example:

 

Maltravers enjoys talking long, tiring walks in the Even-More Secret Garden. Perhaps, that's where he found all of the animals he has captured!

 

Task:

Create your own sentences using adverbs of possibility. Choose characters from Goth Girl to write about.
