English Activities

We teach writing through the 'Talk for Writing' (T4W) approach developed by Pie Corbett. The T4W packs have been designed to allow the children to follow the same approach whilst they are learning from home. Over the next two weeks your booklet is based on Brian Bear's Picnic!

Please complete 1 lesson each day and complete the lessons in order. Each lesson will take roughly 30-45 minutes.

Lesson 1 - Read Brian Bear's Picnic to your child (P3-4). Discuss the meaning if the following words with your child 'scrumptious, succulent, swarm, devoured and tumbling' so they understand the story.

Activity - Fill in the sticky notes on page 5. Remember to answer in full sentences.

Lesson 2 - Re read the story. Activity - Who said what? (p6).

Lesson 3 - Quiz time! (p7).

Lesson 4 - Exploring words together (p8). Remind your child what an adjective is.

Activity - write down 10 adjectives to describe food e.g. delicious, fresh, sour, spicy, crunchy (the list is endless). After you have wrote down 10 adjectives, complete the missing word at the bottom of page 8.

Lesson 5 - Retelling the story (p9).

Activity - draw a story map on a blank piece of paper to retell the journey of the picnic at Friary Wood.
