LI: To multiply 4 digits by 1 digit.

Tip: Remember start your multiplying from the ones column.

LI: To Multiply 3 digits by 2 digits.

Hint: We must always place a place holder in the ones column when we begin to multiply from the tens column (this is because the answer to this section needs to be 10 times greater).

Also, once you have multiplied from the ones and the tens columns you must complete the addition step!

Here we will be using the bus stop method to help you calculate your answers.

When we lay this out you need to make sure you are placing the correct number inside the bus stop.

Example:

4550 ÷ 5

Here the 4550 goes inside the bus stop and the 5 goes outside.

Now you will be starting with the 4 (in the thousands column). You need to ask yourself how many 5s are there in 4. The answer is 0 but we have a remainder of 4 to move next to the 5 (in the hundreds). Then we ask how many 5s are in 45. 9 …
