Teaching and Learning Committee

The Teaching and Learning Committee

Picture 1 The Teaching and Learning Committee
The Teaching and Learning Committee is made up of two children from each year group (Years 3-6).  Children meet with a member of SLT to discuss the learning in their classroom.  They are encouraged to talk to children about their lessons and feedback at committee meetings.

The children chosen this year are:

Year 3 – Kennedy and Olly

Year 4 – Frazer and Ramatoulie

Year 5 - Declan and Chelsea

Year 6 – Bruce, Logan and Sharon

Meeting Notes 2018/2019

Why do we have to do tests?

Children discussed the reasons they have to take tests at the end of each term.  Some of the members explained that it was so the teachers knew what the children needed to next and how the class were doing as a whole.

What is BREXIT all about?

Some of the older members of the committee have discussed Brexit in class and explained what it was and why it is so important.  The Year 6 members have agreed to complete a weekly update in their homework books and feedback latest developments to the rest of their class.

What did the children think about their child-led projects?

On the whole children have loved their child led projects - Year 3 learnt all about chocolate, Year 4 and Year 6 about the oceans and creatures within while Year 5 have been working busily on their presentations about World War II.  All were keen to vote for another project in the new year - it is hoped that some children who's ideas did not win the vote will persuade other children to vote for their ideas.

Did you enjoy your Design and Technology days?

The feedback for a whole day on D&T was positive - "We could spend time experimenting with different levers."  Children spent time going through the design, build, test and evaluate process and were keen to do similar days again.

How are the new pens in Year 6?

Year 6 are trialling new ballpoint pens to write with in Year 6 - this has received mixed reviews with some of the children liking them and others preferring the old style pens.  We will make a decision on pens early next year.
