How to claim a free school meal

Your child may be eligible for free school meals, and accordingly pupil premium, if you receive any of the following benefits:

  • Income support
  • Child tax credit
  • Universal credit
  • Income based jobseeker's allowance
  • Income related employment and support allowance
  • Support under Part IV of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of state pension credit

All children in Reception and years 1 and 2 qualify for a free school meal under the Universal Infant Free School Meals Scheme.

Even if your child is having a free meal under this scheme, or is bringing sandwiches or going home for lunch, it is important that you tell us if your child qualifies for a free school meal as this allows school to claim pupil premium.

If you are not sure if you are eligible for a free school meal, contact the school office who will be able to help you.
