At Forestdale, we believe that some of the most valuable learning happens beyond the classroom. A conversation at the dinner table, a shared story, practising a new skill, exploring a question or trying something for the first time can all help children grow.

We don’t believe learning at home should feel like a second school day. Instead, we encourage families to make time for simple, meaningful experiences that build confidence, curiosity and independence. A little support from home can make a big difference to a child’s learning and their love of discovering new things.

Five simple ways to keep learning going

Read
Share books, stories, comics, recipes or anything that sparks a conversation. Read together, read to your child and encourage children to read for pleasure.

Practise
Keep important skills fresh. Times tables, number facts, spelling, handwriting and key knowledge all become stronger with regular practice.

Talk
Ask questions. Talk about the school day, new ideas, the world around you and things your child is curious about. Good conversations build vocabulary, confidence and understanding.

Explore
Look beyond the classroom. Get outside, visit somewhere new, investigate how something works, search for an answer or follow a question your child has asked.

Create
Draw, build, make, cook, write, design, perform and imagine. Creativity helps children develop ideas, solve problems and express themselves.
