Wellbeing at Forestdale

Happy minds. Healthy relationships. Strong children.

At Forestdale, we believe that children learn best when they feel safe, valued, listened to and able to be themselves. Wellbeing is not something we talk about only when things are difficult — it is part of everyday school life.

We help children understand their emotions, build positive relationships, develop confidence and learn how to look after themselves and others. Through our curriculum, assemblies, conversations, relationships and everyday interactions, we create opportunities for children to develop the skills they need to manage challenges, make good choices and thrive.

What wellbeing looks like at Forestdale

💛 Feeling safe
Children should know that there are adults they can trust and talk to when something is worrying them.

💬 Talking and listening
We encourage children to express their feelings, ask for help and listen to others with kindness and respect.

🌱 Growing in confidence
We celebrate effort, progress and perseverance, helping children understand that making mistakes is part of learning and growing.

🤝 Belonging
Strong friendships and positive relationships matter. We want every child to feel that they belong and that they are an important part of our school community.

🧠 Understanding emotions
Children learn to recognise and talk about their emotions and develop strategies that can help them when things feel difficult.

🌈 Looking after ourselves
We help children understand the importance of sleep, exercise, healthy choices, time outdoors, friendships and taking breaks from screens.

For families

There is no perfect way to support a child's wellbeing. Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is simply make time to listen.

Try asking:

“How are you feeling?”
“What has made you smile today?”
“Is there anything you're worried about?”
“What could I help you with?”

If something is worrying your child, please talk to us. You do not need to wait until a problem becomes big before asking for help. Your child's class teacher, the school office or a member of our pastoral team can help you find the right support.

When children need a little more help

Sometimes children need additional support with their emotions, friendships, behaviour, family circumstances or mental health. We work closely with children and families to understand what is happening and, where appropriate, help families access additional support.

Our priority is always the same:

To help every child feel safe, supported, connected and ready to thrive.

Small things make a big difference

At home, make time to talk, play, laugh, read, get outside and spend time together. Children don't need elaborate activities — they need connection, attention and the reassurance that the adults around them are there.

Be kind. Be curious. Keep talking.

At Forestdale, we grow strong minds, kind hearts and confident children.
