Helping children understand themselves, others and the world around them

At Forestdale, we recognise the importance of developing the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) understanding of every child. We want our children to grow into thoughtful, respectful and responsible individuals who understand themselves, appreciate others and feel confident to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

SMSC is not taught in isolation. It is woven throughout school life and our wider curriculum, giving children opportunities to explore important ideas, ask questions, reflect, develop their own beliefs and values, and understand and respect those of others.

Through PSHE, children develop their understanding of health and wellbeing, relationships, personal responsibility and life in the wider world. Through Religious Education, children explore different beliefs, faiths and worldviews, while developing their own ideas and learning to approach difference with curiosity and respect.

Our curriculum, assemblies, relationships and everyday experiences provide children with opportunities to develop empathy, resilience, responsibility, respect, integrity and a sense of belonging. We also recognise that some of the most valuable learning comes from responding thoughtfully to the opportunities and challenges that arise naturally in school life.

We want every child to leave Forestdale confident in who they are, respectful of others, curious about the world and ready to make a positive difference.
