MUSIC

At Forestdale we want ALL children, including SEND, to be inspired to learn how to appreciate and play music.  All children learn to play the Ukulele (in Years 3/4) and the Flute (Years 5/6).  We are supported by expert music teachers from our local Music Service. By the end of Year 6 children are expected to be able to read and play from music notation.  Children also have the opportunity to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.  They regularly practise singing in groups.  Children begin to understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

 

In assemblies children experience a variety of composers and music (some of which our children compose!).
