At Forestdale we want ALL children, including SEND, to be inspired to learn how to appreciate and play music. All children play the Ukulele (in Years 3/4) and the Flute (Years 5/6). By the end of Year 6 children are expected to be able to read and play from music notation. Children also have the opportunity to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians. They regularly practise singing in groups. Children begin to understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
