OUR SCHOOL CURRICULUM
At Forestdale Primary School we believe every child is given the best opportunities to aspire in their learning and to excel in their standards. This is reflected in the school value words which we expect all staff and children to demonstrate.
At Forestdale Primary School our intent is to provide a broad and challenging curriculum that excites and engages our children as learners. It mixes both classroom learning and other experiences to ensure the children get the most of their time here and are ready for the next stage of their lives. We offer a rich curriculum for all children, including SEND, to engage with, enjoy, and experience success. This will enable them to reach their full potential academically, socially, physically, spiritually and morally. We know that education has been disrupted by the pandemic, however we are committed to ensuring our children catch up on what they have missed and thrive....
We want all of our pupils to aspire, to be inquisitive and independent, excited by the opportunities they are presented with. Our curriculum is constantly evolving, in response to the needs of each individual learner and their interests. It ensures that, at each stage of their learning journey, every child acquires a rich bank of knowledge and skills, which ensure progression across the year groups and key stages. An important part of the teaching cycle is to commit key learning concepts to pupils’ long-term memories through practice, making links and building upon previous learning. Vocabulary forms a key part of the children's learning and we ensure that at every opportunity, children are exposed to new and challenging words and texts to help foster a deep love of reading.
Our curriculum is designed to develop an understanding of Britain’s cultural heritage and values. We strive to equip our children with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in their next stage at school, as well as in their future lives in order to prepare them for the increasingly challenging and demanding world in which we live.
We want children to leave Forestdale to demonstrate all our core values: confidence, resilience, responsibility, empathy, independence, kindness, respect, honesty, cooperation and be healthy. We want our children to believe that that anything is possible through hard work and effort.
Our curriculum promotes equal opportunities and values all children as individuals. Our aim is that our pupils appreciate, recognise and respect differences; understand and appreciate different beliefs and cultures; and treat others fairly and equally. We endeavour to promote the mental, emotional and physical health of all pupils, thereby enabling children to make healthy choices in their relationships and everyday life. Our intent is to produce well-rounded citizens with a good moral compass ready for the next stage of life.
Withdrawal from RE
Children must participate in all aspects of the curriculum - the only exception is that parents can request withdrawing their child from RE lessons. If you wish to do this please send the request via email for the attention of the Headteacher to our enquiry@forestdale.bham.sch.uk and you will be contacted to arrange a meeting to discuss the issues you may have.
